This is essentially the identical Amex sibling to Chase’s Marriott Bonvoy Bountiful® Credit Card. If you’re over your 5/24 limit for Chase, you likely wouldn’t be approved for the Bountiful, so going for the Amex version could be your way in. Not to worry because you’ll also be gifted automatic Gold Elite status with this card, but it’s also missing a complimentary free night award on account anniversary—honestly, something you’d expect for a $250 card. But you can earn this after spending $15,000 in a year, and it’ll be valued at a higher 50,000-point redemption. Like the Bountiful, you’re given 15 elite night credits which will expedite you towards earning Platinum Elite status and all of its additional snazzy benefits.

At Daily Drop, our mission is simple: to help you explore the world affordably and experience life-changing travel by maximizing miles and points. Our team of travel and credit card experts is here to help you make decisions about which cards belong in your wallet. Based on your travel goals, we offer unbiased advice to help you make the best choices. Keep in mind that our suggestions require responsible credit card use.
Here at Daily Drop, we score credit cards using a proprietary formula based on dozens of metrics across six key categories: annual fee, welcome offer, rewards rates, redemption value, benefits & perks, and travel protections. Higher scores indicate better overall value.
We net the annual fee against statement credits you'll likely use and focus on a welcome offer’s true return on spending (ROI) rather than just the headline number. We value rewards by their actual worth in cents per point, which is why flexible, transferable points typically score highest. APR is not a standalone scoring category because we recommend paying in full to maximize points and miles, but an intro 0% APR counts as a perk.
Our reviews are editorial and experience-driven. Our team has earned and redeemed millions of miles and points and tested these cards around the world. After all, we would not be Daily Drop if we were not practicing what we preach.

The Marriott Bonvoy Bevy® American Express® Card sits in the awkward middle of the Marriott Bonvoy® lineup, and whether that's a problem depends entirely on how much you actually spend.
This is a $250 card (see rates and fees) that doesn't hand you a free night just for keeping it open. You have to put $15,000 in eligible purchases on it in a calendar year to earn the Free Night Award. Cheaper Bonvoy cards give you one automatically, which makes the Bevy a tough sell if you're shopping for perks.
But the case for this card isn't the perks. It's how it earns. Up to 18.5x points on eligible purchases at participating Marriott Bonvoy hotels is about as good as it gets in the co-branded hotel world, and 4x points at restaurants worldwide and U.S. supermarkets is a genuinely useful everyday rate. Complimentary Gold Elite status plus 15 Elite Night Credits shortens the climb toward Platinum, which is where Marriott's benefits start feeling like actual benefits.
If you're loyal to Marriott and you're willing to run real spend through this card, it earns its keep. If you stay twice a year and just want a free night for showing up, look one tier down.

[.dontreco] We don't recommend: Chasing the Free Night Award if you aren't already close [.dontreco]
$15,000 in a calendar year works out to about $1,250 a month. If your natural spending gets you there, great. If it doesn't, increasing your spending just to hit the threshold usually means putting purchases on this card that would earn more somewhere else. Run the numbers on your own spending before you commit to the chase.
[.sometimesreco] We sometimes recommend: Routing restaurant and U.S. supermarket spend here [.sometimesreco]
4X on those two categories is strong, and the $15,000 combined annual cap is generous enough that most households won't bump into it. The tradeoff is that you're earning a currency you can only really use at Marriott. If you'd rather keep your options open, a card earning a transferable currency may suit you better.
[.alwaysreco] We always recommend: Using it for every Marriott stay [.alwaysreco]
This is where the card is unambiguously good. Between the Card's 6X, your base earning as a Bonvoy member, and the Gold Elite bonus, eligible Marriott purchases stack up faster here than almost anywhere else.
Don't forget to stack: The 18.5X figure isn't one rate, it's three layers sitting on top of each other. The card contributes 6X. Marriott contributes up to 10X for being a member. Gold Elite status adds up to 2.5X more through the 25% bonus points on stays benefit. Book direct so all three layers actually apply.
1. The Marriott Regular
You already stay at Marriott properties several times a year and you're not shopping around. Between the card's earning at participating hotels, 1,000 bonus points per paid eligible stay booked direct, and Gold Elite perks like room upgrades when available, you're getting paid for behavior you were going to do anyway.
2. The Status Climber
15 Elite Night Credits a year is the real draw here. If you're stalled somewhere below Platinum and you're close on nights, this card closes some of that gap without you sleeping in a single extra hotel room.
3. The Household That Spends
If $1,250 a month on a single card is a normal month for you, the $15,000 threshold stops being a stretch goal and becomes a thing that just happens in the fall. That's when the annual fee math starts working, because you're getting the Free Night Award on top of everything else.
The honest answer is most casual Marriott guests. If you stay twice a year, you're paying $250 for a status tier and an earn rate you won't use enough to justify, and you're leaving the Free Night Award on the table.
You should also skip it if you want flexibility. Marriott Bonvoy points are largely confined to Marriott, so if your travel plans tend to shift between brands, a card earning a transferable currency will serve you better.
And the usual rules apply. If your credit score isn't in good shape, work on that first. If a new card is going to tempt you into spending you can't pay off, the rewards will never outrun the interest. Credit cards are a tool for earning points, not a reason to spend more.
A good to excellent credit score is recommended. If your credit is in solid shape and you're ready for a new card, don't let fear of a denial stop you from applying.
